Pico the walking island

Pico is a paradise for nature lovers. You can make lovely walks along the coast, over gentle slopes and the wide, lush green highlands with small volcanic cones.

With more than 100 volcanoes, the “Ilha Montanha”, with 448km ², the second largest island of the Azores and is known for excellent wine, and many whales and dolphins.

On the mostly surrounded by cliffs island are many walks through green landscapes and hidden valleys, possible in designated hiking trails. On your trails, sometimes you are alone and in harmony with the nature.

Trough Lava tunnels into the depths of the earth, bird watching, the original nature; it is to discover and to advance at lava formations.

Swimming in natural swimming pools and snorkeling are an experience. Island visits are for real nature lovers.

A real highlight is the ascent of Pico, 2,351 m

With certified mountain guides, you can climb the highest mountain in Portugal. The Pico, with its 2.351m is a wonderful volcano. On a clear day you have a breathtaking panoramic view of all five islands of the central group. The challenging and strenuous peak tour requires good stamina, sure-footed and no vertigo. So there's 1150 height to overcome, the total walking time to the rise is about 4.5 hours.
